Snoozer - This is a digital painting I did of Honey Bear ( in one her most typical poses ). It started with a photo Cindy sent me, then I applied a Prisma filter, to enhance the flow of her fur, using only a slight opacity overlay of the filter. In Photoshop I was able to reduce the pixel / noise, build depth using brightness / contrast adjustment layers, and used the burn tool to darken the background. Finally retouched out some background distractions and crop the image. The photo was great to start with... I just wanted to enhance the emage, crop to improve composition, and bring out the detail in her fur without disturbing the overall softness / peaceful of the image.
Spending an afternoon at the golf course on a beautiful Valentine's Day with my sweetheart... and having fun with my phone. Years ago, I used to sit out here with Woody almost every day. I'm also thinking of some interesting print ideas for some of these. If you haven't played with Prisma you should... it's addicting creative fun! - ( also it's Jake's birthday today so... Happy Birthday Jake! )
It wouldn't be appropriate to start this blog with anything other than an entry about the new change in our business careers. In April 2016, we sold Woodland Studios to the new owner, Alan Sheets. He purchased our business because he has been a long time collector of investment art and scandinavian folk art. Alan liked Stoughton because of it's small town Norwegian heritage and thought it would be a great place to open his dream business... an investment art gallery, featuring quality custom framing and scandinavian artifiacts. He was attracted to Woodland because it reflected many of his ideas and provided him with an established business from which he could grow his vision. Alan's wanted to keep the name Woodland Studios and his goal is to build on our tradition of quality custom framing and printing services as he continues to add new features to his gallery with expanded offerings including new artists, investment art, and Scandinavian folk art.
Now that we ( Gary & Cindy ) have finished helping with the transition... we are moving on with the new phase of our careers. We renamed our business Woodland Creative, Inc. and are now focused on selling our own art, brokering other artists, providing creative, consulting, marketing services... and of course, managing our vacation rental cabins in the Smokey Mountains. |
